Why did the South’s economy suffer after the Civil War? A. After the war, the South immediately entered another war, fighting for slavery. B. Slaves were emancipated in the South, resulting in a serious decrease in productivity. C. Most destruction occurred on southern soil, so agriculture had difficulty recovering. D. When the North won the war, they took most of the South’s resources.

Without the slaves in the south, the plantation owners were not able to produce as much and if they wanted the people to keep working they had to pay them which brought costs along with it that the slaveowners didn't have to pay before the war.
