What did the 13th, 14th, and 15th amendments to the U.S. Constitution have in common? The three amendments made slavery illegal and freed Americans who had been held as slaves. They were meant to restore the property rights of former slaveholders and Confederate officers. They were efforts to give male African Americans equal rights of citizenship to white American men. The amendments taken together were intended to eliminate racial discrimination in the United States.
