Can someone check if I created a compound/complex sentence?

*I also had to incorporate the words wane and buoyant.

1. As the children started a tantrum, my buoyant and positive attitude began to wane and was not by any means prepared for it.

Not bad. If you add an I as the subject of the second sentence, you'll have achieved your goal.
