I am trying to get into app design, what kind of CS and web design background is appropriate?
CSS, do you mean ?
It should totally depend what you want to do. Explain more...
Well that's an interesting question, definitely introductory Comp Sci and a strong understand of object oriented programming. There are some online courses that MIT and Stanford have that might be appropriate. Check out iTunes U.
For lighter backgrounds, I personally find #f5f5f5 my favorite hex, (also called whitesmoke). For darker background... Well, actually it totally depends what you want to do. Sometimes a nice texture background suffices.
I love those subtle backgrounds, like those found on the YouTube backgrounds. Some amazing ideas could be found at premiumpixels.com.
Which type of app ? Windows 8/phone (metro). Or.... would it be more like iOS... ?
Or Android (java).
Remember that like Microsoft has some design standards that you HAVE to meet, like metro.
I was referring to Comp Sci as CS, but thanks for your inputs on backgrounds. I'll look into the resources you had mentioned. I have the ideas and screens all sketched out need to build a working prototype. iOS and Android preferably.
omg I was totally off. Sorry about that!
I thought you mean't "CSS background" for your app! Like which background would look the best! :P
