Well that's an interesting question, definitely introductory Comp Sci and a strong understand of object oriented programming. There are some online courses that MIT and Stanford have that might be appropriate. Check out iTunes U.

For lighter backgrounds, I personally find #f5f5f5 my favorite hex, (also called whitesmoke). For darker background...

Well, actually it totally depends what you want to do.

Sometimes a nice texture background suffices.

I was referring to Comp Sci as CS, but thanks for your inputs on backgrounds. I'll look into the resources you had mentioned. I have the ideas and screens all sketched out need to build a working prototype. iOS and Android preferably.
