5. Which of the following is a function of the nervous system? Releasing ATP into contracting muscle tissues Signaling muscle tissues to contract Producing lactic acid in fatigued muscle tissues Increasing cellular respiration in muscle tissues

I was thinking B but I'm not sure

thomaster (thomaster):

First one is wrong because motor neurons release Acetylcholine, not ATP. Acetylcholine binds to Ach receptors on muscle cells which signalls them to contract. Third is wrong too because lactic acid productions is done on a cellular level automatically when the muscles are deprived of oxygen and cannot do oxidative phosphorylation, and has nothing to do with nerves. Last one is wrong because cellular respiration is also regulated on a cellular level, not on a system level. Each cells regulates it's own respiration rate accordingly to the demands on the tissue. The nervous system isn't involved. So the answer is the second one: Signaling muscle tissue to contract

the second one
