Two major factors lead to the decline of the ottoman empire. One, was it's inability to adapt to modern times. It did not wish to push through many social reforms, and was left behind in the age of industrialization. While there was movements to become more modern, like the Young Turks, they were ultimately unsuccessful until after the empire dissolved, and modern day turkey was formed. The second major factor that led to decline was the growing feeling of nationalism. The ottoman empire, much like austria-hungary, was a collection of multiple nations, groups of people, and when the new wave of nationalism started to take hold in the 1800's, it hit the ottomans too. This caused the empire to lose territory overtime from rising revolts. Much of this territory was lost in the Balkan states, such as Greece. These two major factors, along with the fact that the ottoman's lost in world war one, led to a major decline in power in the world and its eventual fall. I would look into Arab Nationalism. In my eyes it was a leading cause because as the Ottoman empire declined you should notice that Nationalism grew.
