A ballast tank containing 150 tonnes of water can be emptied in 20 minutes by pump alone running at full capacity or by another pump alone in 35 minutes running at full capacity. if both pump are running together at half capacity, how long will it take to empty the tank.??? Anyone can help solve this pliz???

where are these questions coming from...?

they seem really...familiar...

engineering mathematics ...

u spelled tons wrong.

I am thinking solve for the time operating at 1/2 capacity value would be the first step. pump 1, full capacity is 150 tonnes divided by 20 min then operating at 1/2 rating it would take 40 minutes. Pump 2, would take 70 minutes. Now solve for them working together. Since you are an engineering student, look at this as two resistors connected in parallel and use product over sum. |dw:1365599996613:dw|
