Find the sum of the first 5 terms of the series. 7 – 14 + 28 – 56 + ...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so is 7 our first term or is 7-14 our first term?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I honestly have no clue. That's what's throwing me off lol.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

dont u use pemas????

OpenStudy (anonymous):

pemdas*

OpenStudy (anonymous):

next is 112 in the series

OpenStudy (anonymous):

know that

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I got 112 at one point but I lost my notes.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes but im trying to figure out is wats given to us the first 4 or 2 terms.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

112- 224 + 448 - 896

OpenStudy (anonymous):

and so on

OpenStudy (anonymous):

7 x 1 = 7 7 x 2 = 14 7 x 4 = 28 7 x 8 = 56 7 x 16 = 112

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i think it's the first 4 terms but i think the question just gave too much of the series by just asking for the next one..

OpenStudy (anonymous):

its multiplying the number that you are multiplying 7 with by 2 (if that makes sense)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes, @touseii45 it makes sense. Thank you lol.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

and it goes in a pattern of minus, plus, minus, plus

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You're welcome^_^

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Alright so the answer is 77 :) thanks :D
