I have made a donut bounce on Maya. But how do I import a 2D image and animate it.

I have not used Maya in several years, but I am confused about your question in regards to animating a 2D image, can you elaborate? In the meantime i will take a stab at answering your question. I imagine you would move each item in the Two-D plane to set the scenes, similar to making the donut bounce. Essentially, you just do not move the items in a third dimension and you have the camera set to a view perpendicular to your 2D scene.

So I started using Maya. I used the tutorial to create a 3d donut. I made it bounce. Now I want to take an image I made in a different program. And I want to animate it. Like a cartoon character I made, and make them 3D and then make them move. Does that make sense? Its because I can draw the cartoon character on a tablet, but I dont know enough Maya to draw a complex figure. What should I be using to do this?

To animate a 3D character, you need to use bones, to emulate a real skeleton. There are plenty of Tutorials to get you started, its too complicated to get all of the information through text here. But you can begin by looking at this Video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2zXuxNkPjJg
