OpenStudy (nathan917):

Y = x^2 + 6x - 20 is a parabola opening up. It is in standard form, y = ax^2 + bx + c A quick peek at the discriminant, b^2 - 4ac, 6^2 - 4(2)(- 20) = 36 + 160 = 196, lets us know it has two real roots. To solve, factor using FOIL. 2x^2 + 6x - 20 = 0 All terms are multiples of two, so factor it out. 2(x^2 + 3 - 10) = 0 2(x + 5)(x - 2) = 0 x = - 5, x = 2
