HUZZA!
Supporters of the National Republican Party published a poster about Andrew Jackson during the 1828 electoral campaign. It contained a list of reasons for their beliefs. Three of the reasons appear below.

Undeniable and conclusive Reasons why General Jackson should be elected President of the United States, founded on the most unquestionable authority, and selected from high-minded, consistent, and republican authors.

11th REASON--Because a grave Senator, pending the last Presidential Election, declared "if he (General Jackson) should be elected President, he would surround himself with a pack of political bull dogs, to bay at all who dared to oppose his measures. For myself (listen to the colonel how valiantly he talks)--for myself, as I cannot think of legislating with a brace of pistols in my belt, I shall, in the event of the election of Gen Jackson, resign my seat in the Senate, as every independent man will have to do, or risk his life and honour!!!"”

The best paragraph to look at is the bottom one... I mean, it starts with saying he should be elected and then it ends with saying if he is elected, any independent person, including the author, should just quit. So "mocking" is what I'd go with.

It means making fun of someone. Laughable, too, but it's sarcasm and teasing and a cruel way to tell someone off.

The author doesn't want Jackson to be elected. He thinks he's a dog of a man who will just bring more dogs in with him, so it wouldn't be gaining votes. it's definitely a negative piece... I think your answers are between A and C...

And even though I think he points out Jackson's character flaws, that's not a purpose. The first one, though, is actually a purpose. So probably A.
