Can any one tell me about what type of event the Mariel Boalift was and what the causes, course, and the consequences were? short and sweet and to the point

In short, Castro temporarily opened the ports to Cuba up for those wishing to leave to do so on anything they could find as long as they had the permits. As a result, more than 120k Cubans left the island nation and immigrated to Miami.
