David measures a side of a piece of wood. The length is 8 feet and the width is one-half of the length. What is the area in square feet, of piece of wood? formula is A=lw

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

The length is 8 feet the width is one-half of the length ----> width = length/2 = 8/2 = 4 ft

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

So Length = 8 ft ----> L = 8 Width = 4 ft ----> W = 4

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you multiply then right?

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

yep

OpenStudy (anonymous):

which is 4X8=32

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

perfect

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

so 32 square feet is the area of the board

OpenStudy (anonymous):

how to show work?

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

just what you did and what I did above

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

OpenStudy (anonymous):
