Are apple maggot flies distinct as a species from hawthorn maggot flies?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

No they are not.

Thank you!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

No problem!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Please explain...... u.u I kinda don't understand why not.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay well both of flies live in the same geographic area but they feed on different things and dont interbreed. They are considered sympiatric speciation meaning that they live in the same geographic area of but they dont breed because they have their own different preference. for example the the apple flies mate on apple fruits and the hawthorn flies mate on hawthorn fruits- they have different mating preferences. However a lot of the experiments do show that they will eventually become distince species.
