I realize this is not a homework question, but it does have to do with music and your opinions....

My sister wants to enter a talent show. She has picked a song, but I personally don't think it is good enough for a talent show. It doesn't seem to matter because she loves this song. She messed up a little on the song, but all and all, does she sound ok ? Constructive criticism appreciated .

Personally, I think this song has too many pauses. Is she going to be doing this song a capella? There were a few pitch problems but it can be overlooked and improved if there is some accompaniment. Here voice has potential though. In my opinion she should pick a different song.

Thats what I told her...but right now she is in a phase of Michael Jackson. This is a Michael Jackson song, she just changed " shes out of my life" to "hes out of my life". I just don't think the song is right for her. She is 11 years old. Music will be playing while she is singing. Do you think she should sing a song that the audience might be more familiar with ? We live in a small town and this is a local talent show. I just don't think the audience will " get into " this song. Do you understand what I am saying ?

Yeah, I get what you're saying. I wouldn't worry too much about familiarity as long as you think the song brings out her voice. My advice at that age would be not to push the vibrato. I know when you're young you think it makes you sound more mature but it doesn't. In fact, it can be a hindrance on your pitch and tone. Instead she should practice full, natural, un-forced tones. Pick songs that would go along with these guidelines. If you would like, I could give you some song suggestions.

oh...please do....last year she did ....I can't remember the name...but it was the Titanic theme song. She did very well with that one. Suggestions would be wonderful.

Ok I'll start off with two songs. They're from the same not well-known movie called Rigoletto. I've asked multiple people to sing one but everybody has turned me down so far so I under stand if you do as well.. I'm not very impressed with the original singer so if somebody with a strong voice would sing them I think it could sound beautiful. They were both written by Kurt Bestor. Here are the links.

The talent show is not until May 18, but the auditions are on Apr. 30. I will let you know how she does and what song she sings. Again, I cannot thank you enough :)

i honestly think she did well. i mean its her choice and did well. But if she has time then she can always choose a different song but thats all on her if she feels good or (comfortable) with. But she did well tho
