Well we can say that his total salary is his base pay + commision sales. So in this case

\[22,380 + x(74,800) = 48,560\]

I don't really know what the official line is but:

And most importantly ask any question no matter how easy or hard, generally someone will have a crack at it. When you are answering questions try not to give the answer, but instead point the asker in the right direction. If you want to do posh mathematical notation you can use this notation \ (\)
although make sure there are no gaps like I've left. Then you can write things like \(x = 5\) and it looks all proper.
