Studying for a test. Anyone want to discuss depolarization and repolarization along an excitable membrane, preferably muscle and nervous tissue?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes but after half an hour ....my net wud be on then.shawnaton1 yahoo messenger or here if u prefer so in chat

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes maybe now?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yeah. So how does repolarization chase depolarization?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

meaning?how does depolarisation occur?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what do u mean by chase?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

na chnnels rapidly close.and remain in this closed state for a few milliseconds before returning to resting state.direction of eletrical gradient is reversed this prevents na influx. voltage gated k channes open slowly and is more prolonged.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so k moves out of cel even after na chanel closes.this k efflux helps complete repolarisaion

OpenStudy (anonymous):

whats ur doubt?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

That makes sense. Thanks.
