John began his job making $25 the first day. After that he was paid $6.75 per hour. Write the linear equation for this problem in y=mx+b form. I got the answer but i need an explanation. thanks.

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

m = variable cost b = fixed cost

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

m = 6.75 (since the variable cost, to the employer, is the hourly wage) b = 25 (the fixed cost is the amount he got paid on the first day regardless of how many hours x he worked afterwards)

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

so y = mx+b y = 6.75x + 25 is your equation
