Can anyone please tell me if my answer is correct on this one? Which measurement is a possible side length for a triangle with two sides measuring 415 ft and 770 ft? 355 ft 245 ft 915 ft 1185 ft

OpenStudy (anonymous):

My answer is 1185

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Always the third side has to be greater than both sides added together

OpenStudy (anonymous):

How do you get the answer then since the two added together are 1185?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Especially since that is the largest answer?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

well, If a b c are lengths of sides of a triangle then triangle can be formed using these a b c only if each of following are correct a-b < c < a+b b-c < a < b+c c-a < b < c+a

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So the answer is 915 then right?

Directrix (directrix):

One side of a triangle is less than the sum of the other two but greater than the positive difference of the other two sides. So, your third side lies between (770 - 415) and (415 + 770). Check my arithmetic but I think this is true: 355 < 3rd side < 1185. -->

Directrix (directrix):

Which of the options lies within this interval: 355 < 3rd side < 1185

Directrix (directrix):

>>>So the answer is 915 then right? @marylou004 Is this true: 355 < 915 < 1185 AND 915 is an option? Yes or No?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So this makes 915 the answer?

Directrix (directrix):

That is correct. Your answer is correct.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thank you so much, I appreciate it.
