Does anyone like story problems? Well do I have a story problem for you! A high school science class is taking a field trip to the Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore and Lake Michigan. The school has $600 budgeted to rent a bus for the field trip. The bus company charges $300 for each day plus $0.80 for each mile the bus is driven. The equation below can be used to determine how many miles (m) the bus can be driven during the field trip. 600 = 0.80m + 300 Solve the equation to determine how many miles can be driven without going over the school’s budget.
For this one you have to isolate the variable, and then solve.
m=375
First, subtract 300 from both sides. Then divide both sides by 0.80. That will give you m.
you are correct
Thanks
wlcm Just remember to answer the question you were asked. The final answer is "375 miles" not "m = 375". The equation is used as a mathematical represntation of the problem. The answer must be in English, not in Algebra.
Ok! Thanks a bunch
