Why can the removal of vegetation trigger mass movements?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Because vegetation is a source of food for many animals. If we remove vegetation, then all of the animals need to go somewhere else, in order to find food. That's what we call a "mass movement." When a whole bunch of people or animals move to a new place.
