OpenStudy (madhatter):

ayesha is a gatdener who makes square gardens in various sizes. the table shows the side lengths in feet, and the areas of various gardens,in square feet. A.write the valuse from the table as a set of ordered pairs B.graph the relation describe your graph and explain whether it is a function. C. describe the relationship between the side lenght and area of the garden D.suppose the area of a garden is 3,600 square feet discribe how to find the

OpenStudy (madhatter):

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

each row corresponds to an ordered pair

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

so the first row of 14 and 196 means we have the point (14, 196) the second row has 18 and 324, so we have (18, 324) etc etc

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i no this!

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

you do this for every row to fill out part a)

OpenStudy (madhatter):

ok ..

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

part b) plot every point you get from part a) and draw a curve through all of the points to graph the equation

OpenStudy (madhatter):

k... so after i do that then what

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

describe the relationship between the side length and area of the garden I'll leave that to you, tell me what you think is the relationship

OpenStudy (madhatter):

can we go back to a plz

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

ok what do you want to ask about that

OpenStudy (madhatter):

so i charted all them down what do i do after that

OpenStudy (madhatter):

..??

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

ok what points did you get

OpenStudy (madhatter):

(14,196) (18,324) (22,484) (26,676) (30,900)

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

correct, plot all these points on the same xy axis

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

after you have plotted all those points, you would then draw a curve through those all of these points

OpenStudy (madhatter):

oh ic

OpenStudy (madhatter):

what about c, d

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

any ideas on C?

OpenStudy (madhatter):

nope i am so lost in this stuf i hate it

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

14^2 = 196 18^2 = 324 22^2 = 484 etc etc so the relationship is this Area = (Side length)^2 ie you square the side length to get the area

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

for part d), you do this A = s^2 3600 = s^2 s^2 = 3600 s = ???

OpenStudy (madhatter):

ok cool thanks i get so lost i have 2 more to do then i am do.....

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

alright

OpenStudy (madhatter):

might have to ask u for more help but not sure

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

go for it

OpenStudy (madhatter):

ok hang on

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

ok

OpenStudy (madhatter):

one evening at 6pm the temp was 24F as the night progressed the temp dropped at a stedy rate of 4F pre hour A.make a table of values for the function for for values of 0 -8 let 0 persent the time for 6 pm

OpenStudy (madhatter):

there are 2 more that i will typ up to

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

ok let's do these one at a time then

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

first row will be 0 and 24 second row will be 1 and 20 (subtract 4 from 24) third row will be 2 and 16 (subtract 4 from 20) fourth row will be 3 and 12 (subtract 4 from 16) etc etc until you have 9 rows total

OpenStudy (madhatter):

ok lol

OpenStudy (madhatter):

thanks B.write a function rule for the liner function explain your method for witeing the rule

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

y = mx + b y = -4x + b ... plug in the slope of -4 (I'll explain how I got this later) y = -4x + 24 ... plug in the y-intercept of 24 (this is the initial temperature) f(x) = -4x + 24 So the function rule is f(x) = -4x + 24

OpenStudy (madhatter):

kk

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

The slope is found by subtracting two temperatures (next to each other)....so 24 - 20 = 4 ... make this difference positive if it's not already then you subtract two hour values (next to each other) ...so 1 - 0 = 1 ... make this difference positive if it's not already Now divide the two differences: 4/1 = 4 Then make the slope negative. The slope is negative because the temperature is DECREASING So the slope is m = -4

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

you could pick on temperatures and hour values not next to each other, but it's easier to use values next to each other

OpenStudy (madhatter):

ok cool the next part is C at what time will the temp reach 0F explian the method of finding the time

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

f(x) = -4x + 24 0 = -4x + 24 solve for x

OpenStudy (madhatter):

ok thanks so much r u willing to help with one more or r u done lol

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

i can do one more

OpenStudy (madhatter):

ok thanks so much u r a life saver oh hey i think i can figure it out on my own actually lol thanks so much for helping me

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

yay that's great that you can, and I'm glad to be of help to you

OpenStudy (madhatter):

sorry for asking so much and takeing up so much of ur time
