Simplify: (x^3+x^2)/(x+1)

OpenStudy (jkristia):

what would you do first ?

OpenStudy (luigi0210):

\[\frac{ x^3+x^2}{ x+1 }\] Since the equation has a factor of x^2 we can factor it out \[\frac{ x^2(x+1) }{ x+1 }\] Now we can cancel out like terms and simplify \[x^2\]
