I have to ask. What brings people to this website?! Some people ask the simplest questions that they could easily find on Google, so what makes this site so attractive? EDIT: Also, another part that stumps me is that they know that they might not necessarily get a response right away, it may take an hour. EDIT 2: I mean this is a loving way, not hating :D
LOL.
I have to answer. OpenStudy is one of the best learning site available in the internet (Infact I would say, the best). We here, help the asker learn how to solve the problem by himself/herself by guiding him/her towards the solution and do not give direct answers . You see, this is learning site and not answering site. Apart from this, we have chat feature here where users can socialize. We have thanking system, by giving medals and Fan Testimonies. We have competition here, based on Smart Score. Competition inspires learning, in a way. We have separate sections for different subjects. Also, you can become Ambassador of this site if you want! or even a moderator if you are capable. And many more things! I would let others add to this.
I have wondered how to become an Ambassador for a while now.
As far as I know, you get fastest response on OpenStudy , especially in Math Section. You need to fill an application form, and more importantly, you need be nice and welcoming, and obeying CoC too.
My strongest section is History, as people can tell on my profile lol
kegan, if you don't like this site, feel free to GTHO. But alas, you can't. You use this site, Google can't answer everything. + does Google guide you through the directions ? like a tutor, a real person, does ? People *do* use this site. For a reason. Try collaborating on math on a Google search ;p
well I struggle with school I know I can find things on Google or weegy but I don't just want the answer I am wishing someone could show me how to solve my work because my teachers don't always do that so I would rather wait to understand then get the answer and fail later
Lol understood @Sean_Le_Van But i am merely asking, it astounds me with how many new people are here everyday. not just math but history, science, anything. Some peopel could care less if they are pointed in the right direction by google as long as it gives answers lol
and I know that @KeganMoore I would love to really be able to understand my work because once the state testing comes around if I don't learn that stuff now then I wont know it then
@shinesupernova that is the main reason why i reside in History...i got commended on every state test for history and i love to help people with history
Good question Kegan. As hartnn already mentioned, we guide the user to the correct way of doing the question rather than answering the questions directly. The users some time, dont' get a response for hours, this is because some of us are busy with work or are not able to help the user. But , we always try to help them at our best. The users know that they , in some conditions may not get proper responses to their questions , but they know that asking the questions here will provide them with : innovative steps/ideas to solve the questions and the best and different ways to solve a single question. That's why most of the students interested in understanding the concepts and researching on them, come here and ask questions and also help others. OpenStudy is not only , but it is also a stage or a suitable platform where the students can discuss on their problems with their friend and experts. Those who answer your questions are among your friends or are experts. Also, we try to ensure that the students are provided with the best help and the solutions don't have mistakes. This all brings the people to know about this website . Not only a website but a study room in fact. The users studying here obviously discuss about this site's functioning, help given to the students, with their friends , and so more and more students come to know about this site. This is just a result of communication among the humans. OpenStudy has also collaborated with some institutions and websites. MIT OCW has provided a space for OpenStudy in their website also. Autodesk is also a company which has recently collaborated with openstudy for designing . There are many more. This is also how the students and teachers come to know about this website. Many users come to know about this site by searching questions online through search engines. It is great to know that you also want to become an ambassador. For that you have to concentrate on some important tasks. Like : welcoming new users , telling them about openstudy and inviting users here. Before this all, one has to follow the OpenStudy code-of-conduct first. You can also have a look at it here : http://openstudy.com/code-of-conduct Those users having a circled A before their usernames, are ambassadors (just like I have) . We guide the new users on this site , welcome them and introduce to openstudy code-of-conduct. \(\textbf{I hope it helps!} \space \ddot \smile \)
@mathslover helped a lot :) ty
Great to know, Kegan that it helped you! You're welcome.
Thanks guys! Kegan, we connect people with people who can help and who want to help. We believe studying should not be a lonely activity. And when one person teaches another, two people learn! That is the magic of OpenStudy. Welcome!
Tip: Pree, first check someone's smart-score before saying welcome. jk ;P
I found Openstudy because I used google LOL.
