Can you consider poetry music?

OpenStudy (tanner23456):

nope, literature.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

tanner what are songs then?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thats what im sayin >.<

OpenStudy (anonymous):

But you can consider music poetry

OpenStudy (anonymous):

*music as poetry

OpenStudy (anonymous):

or lyrics not music

OpenStudy (anonymous):

poems turns into lyrics are in songs, songs are MUSIC

OpenStudy (anonymous):

or would the only type of poem that can be considered as music be a ballad? @iluvreading bc i wouldnt suggest a haiku be turned into a song lol

OpenStudy (tanner23456):

no, songs have a melody and harmony and counter melody and such. Words are just something to say while you sing the melody. It would be different if people were posting lyrics from their own original songs, but it's straight poetry which is literature not music. Music: The art or science of combining vocal or instrumental sounds (or both) to produce beauty of form, harmony, and expression of emotion. I don't see poetry mentioned in there. Do you? Yes, I suppose music contains poetry in a way, but poetry does not contain music.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay but you need lyrics to have a melody AND WHAT ARE LYRICS POEMS!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Im not really familiar with different types of poetry but dont a lot of poems have a sort of rythm?

OpenStudy (tanner23456):

No, you definitely don't need lyrics to have a melody.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes they do so they are considered music me and my music teacher have been over this multiply times because that is how i write my songs

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So posting poems would be perfectly acceptable here in the music group? Not lyrics, poems.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the CoC says nothing about poems not being acceptable in the music section

OpenStudy (tanner23456):

ok, great, if you a melody to go with your lyrics then I think that's fine to post them. however, I would ask that you also post the actual. Strictly poetry without music is literature and should be posted in the literature section. I don't understand how anybody disagrees with that.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

http://openstudy.com/code-of-conduct

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Even though there is technically a better place for poems?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Like the writing section

OpenStudy (tanner23456):

Exactly ^

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Bc you would think that the music section would have more composition based questions or things like that. Posting your own lyrics I think is okay but im just confused on the whole poetry situation

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I consider it music :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

How? @sisike

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it has beats and rhythm and its meaningful. you can sing poetry if you wanted to! its a form of music! it flows.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So a freeverse is just as much music as a symphony?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i gues you can look at it that way. It all depends on how you precieve things. :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

LOL philosophy 101.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

XD

OpenStudy (anonymous):

songs are poetry every singer starts to write music with poetry first

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thats what i said at the beginning, that lyrics can basically stand alone as poetry. but can music be considered as poetry? @joannaxox3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i consider it music!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

<3 yay poetry!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yep tanner only said it is not music because he likes classical music with im ok with but we all have different opinions on what is music

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Like^

OpenStudy (anonymous):

But there is a distinct line between music and poetry.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

they are the same!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

like me i do not like my brothers music but is just like mine except differnet type of beat and singing.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Bc not all music has lyrics

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so how can that be considered as poetry?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thats just noise then

OpenStudy (anonymous):

well theres music (just music) and music(with lyrics)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

noise as in garbage or just noise?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so only music with lyrics can qualify as poetry? is what youre saying right?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

well i dont consider it noise i find music relaxing. noise is just noise like a child screamin or someone talking but music is a different type of noise its noise with a Melody

OpenStudy (anonymous):

well its like this music is just a sound with instruments or stuff like that a song is music with lyrics.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

noise is noise. not as in garbage. its noise how would you describe it besides sound? it would be noise. Im just saying that music with no lyrics is just noise or sound. but music with lyrics has more meaning more soul.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

lol listen to chief keef

OpenStudy (anonymous):

tell me if thats poetic

OpenStudy (anonymous):

lol

OpenStudy (anonymous):

poetic justice! jk XD

OpenStudy (anonymous):

:o from kendrick llama? xD

OpenStudy (anonymous):

sure.... :P

OpenStudy (anonymous):

well rappers i no forsure use poetry

OpenStudy (anonymous):

hell yeah they do!!! (sorry if that offended anybody sometimes i get too excited) XD

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh well just no foul language please. but if you really think about it u cant really think of a way to write music with out peotry cuz ur music has to rhyme and have a flow to it to go with the music right. with out poetry u wont understand.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

EXACTLY!!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes they are because what are ballads any poem written in similar style. Any light, simple song, especially one of sentimental or romantic character, having two or more stanzas all sung to the same melody.

OpenStudy (tanner23456):

Actually, if you think about. You don't even need words at all. It's just been a nice addition to music through the years, but poetry is not required to write a song.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay you know what im done MR.SMARTY PANTS to us it is part of music so just let us do us and be able to do it oka

OpenStudy (tanner23456):

At least write songs to go with them then. And then you can post the song and the lyrics and it would be applicable to the music section.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes poems are considered music here.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

but why @KateluvsBeautyanBeast

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Music is poetry. All olden day music was poems put to music.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

maybe

OpenStudy (anonymous):

poetry is literature. it would be music if you added a melody.
