Is Streptococcus pneumoniae aerobic, facultative anaerobic, or anaerobic? I've been finding mixed answers in every source I have checked.

This source here tells us that it's an "aerotolerant anaerobe." http://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0966842X13000152 What that means is that they have an anaerobic metabolism, but the presence of oxygen doesn't affect them in any way.

I was always taught Strep pneumoniae was facultative anaerobic...
