Explain, Teach me. Im clueless.

OpenStudy (umarsback):

Solve the equation by graphing. x2 - 5x - 24 = 0

OpenStudy (anonymous):

What exactly do you need to solve for?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

zeros?

OpenStudy (umarsback):

They're choices.. {4, 6} {-2, 12} {-4, 6} {-3, 8}

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay, so you're trying to solve for the zeros of the equation. As this is parabolic, the function will cross two points on the x axis. You can solve by graphing on wolframalpha.com, or by factoring the equation

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You can see that the equation is equal to (x+3)*(x-8)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

foil it out if you you can't see it

OpenStudy (anonymous):

with (x+3)*(x-8) = 0, only one of the two products has to be zero, so the zeros are -3 and 8

OpenStudy (amistre64):

|dw:1366136641578:dw| x1 and x2 are where the graph of the curve intersect the x axis
