Need help pronto

OpenStudy (anonymous):

need help with what

OpenStudy (jdoe0001):

mowing the lawn? maybe not

OpenStudy (anonymous):

a2 – a – 20

OpenStudy (jdoe0001):

a2? I gather you meant a^2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes

OpenStudy (jdoe0001):

for quadratic equations, usually you'd get 2 binomials as factors, the form of A^2+B+C, = (x+N1)(x+N2), where N1+N2 = B, and N1*N2 = C

OpenStudy (jdoe0001):

so, if you were to simplify "20", which two numbers can you get that when added will give you -1? since (1)a^2+(-1)a+(-20)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

wow that is really confusing , I just only started doing this, i'm doing online right now and the format of all the assignments are soooo confusing. I barely get it

OpenStudy (jdoe0001):

well, maybe time to brush up on that chapter you skipped :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[\text{ Break the Middle term into two numbers , A and B,} \\ \text{ that, when added, equal -1 and when multiplied equal -20 } \\ ax^2 - 5a +4a - 20 \\ a( a - 5)+4(a -5) \\ ( a -5) ( a +4 ) \\ \]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh i get it now. Wow, i've been so dumb this whole time, I just needed a breakdown of the steps, thank you so much I understand now :)
