Estimate each percent 18% of 192

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

Hint: 18% is close to 20%

OpenStudy (anonymous):

18/100 x 192

OpenStudy (anonymous):

34.56

OpenStudy (anonymous):

was that your answer?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I am kind of confused because for this example that my teacher did 22% of 98 the answer was 20.

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

22% is close to 20% 98 is close to 100

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

so saying "22% of 98" is roughly close to saying "20% of 100"

OpenStudy (anonymous):

192*.18=34.56

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so 18% of 192 is 34.56

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes it is. do you understand the math behind it?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

But I think my teacher does not want the answer in decimals

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so you would round up to 35 because the # behind the decimal place is greater than 4

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ok, thanks.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you round both numbers 22% becomes 20 and 192 becomes 90... yould get 38
