Find the area of the problem.

The area of a triangle has the formula: A = (1/2) * b * h where b is a base of the triangle and h is the height. A = (1/2) * 6.9 * 4 A = ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

13.8 cm2 ?

Directrix (directrix):

That is what I got.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Could you possibly help me with one last question, please?

Directrix (directrix):

I'll look at it and see.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

A park in a subdivision is triangular shaped. Two adjacent sides of the park are 533 feet and 525 feet. The angle between the sides is 53°. To the nearest unit, find the area of the park in square yards.

Directrix (directrix):

Please click on the blue DRAW button below and sketch the diagram. Put the angle measures and lengths of the triangle on the diagram. Then, we will decide how to solve the problem.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I'm assuming that's what it would look like

Directrix (directrix):

That looks good to me. Now, do you know this theorem: The area of any triangle is (1/2) the product of any two sides of the triangle and the sine of the angle included between the two sides.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yeah I forgot about it :/ So, you would set up the problem like this: 1/2 ( 525*533* sin53) ?

Directrix (directrix):

Yes, see what you get.

Directrix (directrix):

Be sure that your calculator is set to degrees.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Is the answer 111739?

Directrix (directrix):

111,739.09 square feet. The answer sounded big to me but I did check.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

And I just checked, the question asked for the answer in square yards and I got 37246 sq yd. I just wanted to make sure this is correct?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Anyways, thank you so much for explaining those problems to me Directrix :)

Directrix (directrix):

3 feet = 1 yard 3^2 feet = 1 square yard 111,739.09 square feet divided by 9 square feet = 12415.45 square yards. I got a different answer but am checking. @Caileigh15

OpenStudy (thatlilmathgirl12xd):

Is this the right answer? Or is there more to it?

Did anyone find the right answer @ThatLilMathGirl12XD

OpenStudy (thatlilmathgirl12xd):

I'm not sure still.
