Scientific notation has one whole number on the left side of the decimal, and then you multiply it times 10 to a power of places you have to move the decimal to get back to the original equation.
For example, 65100 you get 6.51, then you have to move the decimal 4 places in the positive direction to get back to the original answer so you have \[6.51\times 10^{4}\] as a final answer.
Similarly, if you had 0.0000566, you would have 5.66, then you would need to move the decimal place 5 places in the negative direction to regain the original number so you have \[5.66\times 10^{-5}\]
