Absolute Value Equations! Please help!
\[5 |x-8|+4=1\left| x-8 \right|+9\]
Okay do you know what your supposed to do?
try to isolate |x-8| first.
What don't you understand?
i dont get what i'm suppose to be doing. Simpliflying, finding x, i don't know
Well for each problem they should ask what type of answer they want from it.
In this problem it seems like they want x.
it says x=___ or x=___
yeah, here you are finding possible values of x
Like @hartnn said you will be isolating x and you will get two answers for x.
so do i add x-8 to both sides?... or?
Okay so can you isolate |x-8| by yourself? Or would you like me to show you?
can you isolate |x-8| first to make things simpler, you can let y = |x-8| and solve 5y+4=y+9 and solve for y first
Lol @hartnn has this covered :P Lol Im gonna head to another problem. Best of luck to you @Lizzychey :)
Thank you both for your help :)
ok so i got 5/4
yes, |x-8| = 5/4 is correct. are you sure about the question ? anyways, if |x| = c then x=c OR x=-c so, what about |x-8| =5/4 ?
