they give you different x and y values. plug them into the equations above and see which one of the equations is true for the x,y values given.
so you first have (0,-6) try that for y = x-6 -6 = 0-6 -6 = -6 good. y = x – 4 -6 = 0-4 -6 = -4 bad. once you go through each of the equations for the first ordered pair (x,y) try the next ordered pair and go through all of the equations again. see which equation is true for every one of the ordered pairs.
so for y = x^2 -6, try it for (0,-6) -6 = 0^2 - 6 -6 = 0 -6 -6 = -6
so it the exact same! Thats what I thought....but then isn't that the answer too?
not necessarily, you are given many ordered pairs (x,y) see which equation holds true for ALL of the ordered pairs.
ok
one of them will fail for one of the ordered pairs that you have been given. just work through all of them and see which one fails. you will then be left with the correct equation.
okay i will try
it'll be a bit tedious, but your teacher probably wants to check if you can do the algebra.
correct
thank you!
