I want to write about whether sport is more beneficial or more detrimental to society. I want to say it is detrimental from the perspective of psychological well-being. But my professor says, in ESL classes, it is better to just stay simple. Psychological vocabulary is quite complicated.
If i where you id get complicated to show off some potential.
I want to start with my own story, how I got hurt from sports. Then, my first argument is that sports hurt children in their early age.my second argument is watching sport waste lots of people's time. Third. sports become religion to people. but, I haven't decided how my thesis is going to be.
Oh, I have one more question. do you know what is the different between sport and sports?
Sounds like you are off to a good start. You teacher was trying to give you some advice to make the assignemnt easier for you and it's good advice, if you get very technical. It does not sound like you are taking it in a technical direction though. Just becareful of the assignment requirments though. If this has to be a factual paper you need to back up your opinions with facts retrieved from other sources. Rememeber, in persuasive writing you will not persuade anyone by simply stating your opinions. Also the difference between sport and sports depends on how you use the word either one can be a noun: Baseball and basketball are sports. or a verb: For my job interview I think I'll sport a power tie. As nouns the difference between sport and sports is one of plurality. That is are talking about one SPORT or several SPORTS. As verbs the are from the verb TO SPORT, which has several meanings that you can look up if you wish, but the difference between sport and sports is that sport is the base form of the verb: (I/we?they) SPORT a power tie. and sports is the 3rd person singular form of the verb: (He/she/Bill) sports a casual smile. The word can also be used as an adjective such as: I like to go sport fishing.
Ok, I see. thank you. from the discussion with my tutor, she says "sport" is used for the general idea of athletic activity, not the collection of types of sports such as baseball, basketball, swimming,
I have a questions now: "the collection of type of sports" and "the general idea of athletic activity", are they different?
