(mass weight density question) A wooden block of density 800kg/m3 and volume of 1.0m3 is fastened to the bottom of a freshwater pond as shown above. If the string suddenly breaks, the initial acceleration of the block will be close to A) 0.25ms-2 B) 1.23ms-2 C) 2.5 ms-2 D) 12.5ms-2
Ok.. first of all you need to understand something called buoyancy!... It is the upward force that a fluid puts on any object which is partially or fully immersed in it Second is you have to understand HOW to calculate this force which was discovered by the great Archimedes and we call the Archimedes principle once you calculate the force (upward buoyant force) you need to calculate the mass of the wooden block (so should know the relation between density mass and volume) then use newton's second law :P so start it this way.. and ll help you if you get stucK!
