what is f(x)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Let's take something like: \(f(x)=x^2\) The \(f(x)\) just means that f is a function that is changing with respect to x. Meaning if I input 2 for x, I get f(x) = 4. So as we see, f(x) is depended on x. We could also have f(x) = x - 5 and many others, the f(x) is just there to tell you that input a value for x to get the value for f(x). Also for the sake of simplicity, f(x) is the same as y since you are graphing on the x/y axes. @marv_1
