Sequential runoff question - I'm attempting to choose a winner between these 4 candidates by sequential run-off. I'm confused as to which one to eliminate in the second round, because they all have equivalent votes. I'll attach images of the tables in a comment
So I eliminated candidate C first, considering it had 0 first place votes. Now should I eliminate candidate D...?
My second round image is attached
Why is it confusing? Are you using ONLY 1st place votes?
That's what I'm unsure of. I can just go by the fact that D does not have any second place votes rather than first place?
What's the '1st place vote" rule? Di we consider it alone unless it doesn't work? Do we never consider it alone? You should have a rule.
All my text says is "The candidate with the fewest first-place votes is eliminated at each stage, and runoffs continue until someone claims a majority." Since all the values are equal I wasn't sure what to do next.
Well, okay. You'll need a tie-breaker. 2nd place votes?
So that's ok? Candidate D would be eliminated next?
Ok so then it would be B with 20 votes over 10 for A - so B would be the overall winner
Or you must declare a tie or a no-vote.
ohh...hm. My text hasn't given any mention of ties or no-votes.. i wonder if thats the case
Right. You'll have to find it or invent it.
Ok, I will post the work for each method and see. Thank you for the help!
