OpenStudy (anonymous):

Anne was observing a cell under a microscope which was undergoing binary fission. Which type of cell was Anne observing?

thomaster (thomaster):

Anne was observing a prokaryotic cell because only prokaryotes undergo binary fission.

thomaster (thomaster):

bacteria are prokaryotes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

are common to both prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what*

thomaster (thomaster):

they have a lot of things in common: - they have basic organelles like mitochondria, lysosomes, cell wall, endoplasmatic reticulum, ribosomes and many more. - they have DNA - they synthesize proteins (ribosomes do this) - they have similar methabolism - their energy is produced by mitochondria - they are made from the same materials (like carbohydrates, fats, nucleic acids, etc) and many more

OpenStudy (goformit100):

I know the answer

OpenStudy (anonymous):

A fish that normally lives in salty water is placed in a tank containing fresh water. What do you think will happen to the cells of the fish?

thomaster (thomaster):

If you move a saltwater fish into freshwater osmosis will move water into the cells of the fish and the fish has no mechanism to get the extra water out so it will swell and eventually cause a slow and painful death for the fish.
