How did World War I lead to the genocide of Armenians?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the Young Turks wanted the Otthomans to be strong power again because they had lost much of their power after the events that were before the first wold war

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so they wanted a big nation with everyone Turk, under a common religion (Armenians were mostly Catholic,Christians

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the Turks in the World War I were from the Central Power side--->Germans/Austro-Hungarians & Bulgaria

OpenStudy (anonymous):

From the other side you had Entente powers --->British Empire,France,---Russia---

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Russia supported Armenians because most Armenians were Russians, were born in Russia

OpenStudy (anonymous):

but on the other side Turks didnt want Armenians to get their autonomy ,and make their own nation inside Turkey ,and they wanted a common religion so they opposed Armenians and in that way Russia opposed them because Russia supported Armenians

OpenStudy (anonymous):

in conclusion,World War I with the enmity between Russia and Turkey ,mainly in the weapon trade and that both of these two powers wanted to expand provided Turkey an --excuse-- for the genocide of Armenians in order to provoke the Russians

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh and well, the Armenians sent one emissary to defend their rights before the start of the First World War , and they didnt get response because the other big powers made war on other fronts ,so no big power defended Armenians, so Armenians were on the mercy of Turks ..i think thats more important than the 1st reason

i hope it helped
