If a number n is subtracted from 18, the result is four less than n. What is the value of n? (Write an equation first before solving.)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I think the equation will be written as 4(18-n)<n

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no i don't think that is right

OpenStudy (anonymous):

"n is subtracted from 18" : \(18-n\) "four less than n": \(n-4\) solve \[18-n<n-4\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

sorry i meant solve \[18-n=n-4\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

add \(n\) to both sides, get \[18=2n+4\] then add 4 to both sides \[22=2n\] divide both sides by 2 \[11=n\]
