OpenStudy (madhatter):

can someone help me understand how to find the slope of a line plzzzzzzzzzz

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Give me the equation, I will guide you to find its slope..

OpenStudy (anonymous):

If you can just write any equation in the form y = mx +c, then it gets easy to find the slope..

OpenStudy (madhatter):

i have two points on a graph will that work??

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yeah why not...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Then just write those two points..

OpenStudy (madhatter):

(2,3)(5,3)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay.. Do you know here, what is \(x_1, y_1, x_2\) and \(y_2\) ??

OpenStudy (madhatter):

no

OpenStudy (madhatter):

sorry

OpenStudy (anonymous):

See coordinates of every point is written as : \(x, y\) Do you know this??

OpenStudy (madhatter):

yes i do the first # is always x right

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Here x represents x coordinate and y represents y coordinate of that point...

OpenStudy (madhatter):

ok

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yep.. So if you have point say (5,3) Then can you tell me what is its x coordinate and what is its y coordinate??

OpenStudy (madhatter):

the 5 is x and the 3 is y right ??

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yep.. Similarly if you have two points then, You will write that points as : \((x_1, y_1)\) for first point and \((x_2, y_2)\) for second point.. Okay??

OpenStudy (madhatter):

kk

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Similarly, you have now two points : (2,3) and (5,3).. Here can you tell me what are \(x_1, y_1, x_2, y_2\) ??

OpenStudy (madhatter):

(2=x1,3=y1)(5=x2,3=y2)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So now you have just made it: Formula for Slope when you are given with two points \((x_1,y_1) \) and \((x_2,y_2\)) is given by: \[\large \color{green}{Slope = \frac{y_2 - y_1}{x_2 - x_1}}\] Just use it buddy..

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Just plug in the values and find slope.. Can you do it??

OpenStudy (madhatter):

umm i think i can let me try it and get back to u

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Take your time.. No hurry..

OpenStudy (madhatter):

is it -3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Wait, let me check..

OpenStudy (madhatter):

kk

OpenStudy (anonymous):

No. how you got -3 ??

OpenStudy (madhatter):

i did the equation ???

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Just show your work, how you plugged in those values just show..
