The mass of the first x meters of a thin rod is given by the function m(x) on the indicated interval. Find the linear density function for the rod. Based on what you find, briefly describe the composition of the rod. 1) m(x) = 4x – sin x grams for 0 ≤ x ≤ 6 2) m(x) = 4x grams for 0 ≤ x ≤ 2

Sorry, I don't know seriously..

ok :(

@Spacelimbus can u help?

Is this out of physics? I believe I have heard about the linear density function before, but I don't remember the context.

its calculus

I am pretty sure that it is calculus, but I don't know what they understand under a linear density function, I just googled for it and found the following article: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Linear_density Which seemed logical to me, because a density is a mass divided by a volume, I think in this more abstract case it can be thought of an infinitesimal small change in mass divided by an infinitesimal small change in length. We have a mass function given, but they don't mention anything about a length, so you might want to see it as unit length.
