The figure shows a pattern of a regular hexagon and equilateral triangles. Which of the following describes the correct method to find the measure of angle y? The exterior angle of the hexagon is the angle of the equilateral triangle. y = 60°. The exterior angle of the hexagon is the interior angle of the equilateral triangle. y = 180° – 60°. The exterior angle of the hexagon is the exterior angle of the equilateral triangle. y = 180° – 120°. The interior angle of the equilateral triangle and y are supplementary angles. y = 90° - 60°.

i am confused with the options. y is actually the interior angle of hexagon, coz its inside the hexagon and its exterior angle of equilateral, coz its outside equilateral triangle.

hartnn (hartnn):

and exterior and interior angles are supplementary, so y + 60 =180 this is represented by only one choice

hartnn (hartnn):

y = 180° – 60°.

120.?

hartnn (hartnn):

i think you can use this fact also to deduce y+60 = 180 "The exterior angle of the hexagon is the interior angle of the equilateral triangle. " and yes, y= 120 but do you understand exterior and interior angles ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes! they can be corresponding or vertical and can add up to 180 degrees

OpenStudy (anonymous):

supplementary or complementary is what i meant.
