What do you you multiply to get 35 and can also add to get -2? Same question but multiply to get 24 and add to get 11?
The first doesnt have one, the second one is8 * 3
Thank you. What do I do with the first one though? I have to factor 5x^2 - 2x - 7
(5x - 7 )( x + 1 )
I have to show my work. How did you get that. Here is the whole question I had to choose two equations from like five. I chose 5x^2 - 2x - 7 and 8x^2 - 11 + 3. I have to explain how to factor the two separately.
first assume you can separate so ( 5x ) ( x ) that gives you 5x * x = 5x^2, next find numbers to get -7 7 * -1, -7 * 1
(5x + 7) ( x -1 ) but this will give you +2x when you multiply 7*x - 5x
so lets use the other pair - 7 * 1 (5x -7)(x +1) now just distribute 5x^2 - 7x + 5x -7 = 5x^2 -2x - 7
I am factoring by grouping.
could you explain
Never mind. What you did was perfect thank you.
