why are group 1 metals called alkali metals and group 2 metals called alkali earth metals?????

group 1 metals are more basic than the group 2 two elements and they are called earth metals bcoz they are derived from the earth crust

because group 1 reacts with water to give a strong metallic hydroxide... while group 2 react with water to give a weak metallic hydroxide
