It's a picture, but I will try to describe it the best I can. It's a right triangle, the base is unknown, the side is 8, and the hypotenuse is 17. I know you have to do pythagorean thereom, i did it and you get 15, it was simple. then I added 15 to 8 and 17, and I got 40, but that's not one of the answer choices on the review.. the closest is 46..

OpenStudy (moonlitfate):

So, your triangle would like... something like this.

|dw:1366837179137:dw|

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yesss

OpenStudy (anonymous):

omg, i had no idea you could add drawings on here

OpenStudy (moonlitfate):

And you want to find the unknown side-- which is the Pythagorean Theorem:\[a^2 + b^2 = c^2\] c = hypotenuse ; a & b are the sides.

OpenStudy (moonlitfate):

Haha, yes! You can! he draw button. :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes, i found x, it is 15, but idk what to do next i added all the sides.. but i got 40 which isn't the right answer

OpenStudy (moonlitfate):

Is it more than just finding the length of the unknown side?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you have to find the perimeter, oops i think i forgot to mention that

OpenStudy (moonlitfate):

Well, does the question ask for more than that?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so like when you find the unknown side you have to add everything together.... here are the answer choices: 15, 33, 46, 50

OpenStudy (anonymous):

omg, wait i think i know, ima upload the pic

OpenStudy (moonlitfate):

You're positive it's perimeter and not area? Just making sure. :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

its actually a rectangle, so like half of it is a triangle, so i just saw the triangle and thought you have to do the pythagorean thereom, but maybe you have to do something else..

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes, im positive its not area

OpenStudy (moonlitfate):

Ah, okay. I was a bit confused there.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i found this formula on google for perimeter for this type of problem: Perimeter = 2L + 2 ( \/ (D^2 - L^2) do u think its right? maybe i should try it and see if i get one of the answers

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i dont get what that V stands for or whatever it is..?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i have 45 mins left for 13 problems :/

OpenStudy (moonlitfate):

I don't get that, either. Geometry isn't really my strong suit, but I'll show you what I did.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OMG i got it!!!!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

its 46

OpenStudy (moonlitfate):

Since it's a rectangle, and it's being cut by a diagonal, I assumed that the two triangles would have an equal area.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

its not with that long formula btw

OpenStudy (moonlitfate):

That was the same answer I got as well. I'll upload the picture that I worked out on my tablet.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i did P= 2(8+15) = 46

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok :)

OpenStudy (moonlitfate):

Sorry that it took a bit; but, her eyou go. :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

its ok.. thanks :)

OpenStudy (moonlitfate):

I hope it kind of helps; was kinda in a rush to see if I could help you. So, it's kinda messy. xD

OpenStudy (anonymous):

its ok i can read it :]

OpenStudy (moonlitfate):

All right, good! Do you need help with anything else? :3
