find the sum 9y^2+7y^2

OpenStudy (moonlitfate):

Since the both numbers have the same base, they can be added together just like normal numbers. Does that make sense?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So it will be like 16^2?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

16y^2 ** (Don't forget the y)

OpenStudy (moonlitfate):

\[9y^2+7y^2 = 16y^2\] The base gets carried over since it's the same. :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

They are like terms so you could just add them together but the y^2 stays the same so it becomes 16y^2

Thanks.(:
