Glycolysis provides a cell with a net gain of A. 2 ATP molecules. B. 4 ATP molecules. C. 18 ATP molecules. D. 36 ATP molecules.

OpenStudy (priths):

I think to be precise, as far as i remember, after glycolysis in the presence of oxygen, 38 ATP molecules are generated and in the absence of oxygen, 2 ATP molecules are generated.

thanx

OpenStudy (frostbite):

After glycolysis only 2 ATP is created, the rest come from Kreb's cycle and the oxidative phosphorylation. In the glycolysis we have investing phase and gain phase. In the investing phase we use 2 ATP and in the gain phase we get 4 ATP back.. so the net ATP gained is 2 ATP.
