If you flip one coin the possibilities are {H, T} - two possibilities If you flip two coins the possibilities are {TT, TH, HT, HH} - four possibilities If you flip three coins -> {TTT, TTH, THT, THH, HTT, HTH, HHT, HHH} - eight So you get 2, 4, 8, ... So the patter is 2^x
