Find the values of the variables for which ABCD must be a parallelogram. http://media.education2020.com/EVresources/647-06-03-00-00_files/i0230000.jpg

OpenStudy (raden):

first, solve for y 3y - 9 = 2y + 2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay thnks :) so i add 3y to all of them?

OpenStudy (raden):

no, subtract by 2y from both sides will giving us 3y - 9 = 2y + 2 3y - 9 -2y = 2y + 2 - 2y y - 9 = 2 then add by 9 : y - 9 + 9 = 2 + 9 y = 11

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thanks! :) can you show my how to find x too?

OpenStudy (raden):

now, how to solve x look the diagram again, 3x + 6 = y + 4 put y = 11, 3x + 6 = 11+4 3x + 6 = 15 subtrac by 6 from both sides 3x+6-6 = 15-6 3x = 9 then divide by 3, 3x/3 = 9/3 x = 3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

omg. your really good @ this! thank you. i got exactly how you did x

OpenStudy (anonymous):

buy the y im still confused on. im trying to put it all together how you did that.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i think its confusing me because its not the same thing you did finding x. but thanks i got it now!

OpenStudy (raden):

you're welcome ;)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh wait. i do have a question about finding y. where did you get the -2y after 3y-9-2y+2?
